Injectable collagen biostimulators: Sculptra, Juvelook & Lenisna

Injectable collagen biostimulators represent a significant shift in how we approach facial ageing. Rather than replacing lost volume with filler material, these treatments stimulate the skin’s own collagen-producing cells to encourage the gradual rebuilding of the structural framework that keeps skin firm, lifted, and resilient.

Collagen is lost at approximately 1% per year from age 25 onwards, a process accelerated by factors including sun exposure, smoking, and the hormonal changes of menopause. The result over time is visible: skin that thins, loses elasticity, and sags.

Biostimulators address this at the root, producing improvements that develop naturally over weeks and months and can last well beyond what traditional fillers achieve. At Hardwick Clinic, we offer a range of injectable biostimulators – Sculptra, Juvelook and Lenisna – allowing Dr Lapa-Enright to select the most appropriate treatment, or combination of treatments, for your skin, your concerns and your goals

Sculptra

Sculptra is a cutting-edge aesthetic treatment designed to restore facial volume and promote a more youthful appearance. Sculptra is a unique, clinically approved injectable that works differently from traditional fillers. It targets the underlying causes of facial ageing by stimulating the body’s natural collagen production. As we age, our skin’s collagen levels decrease, leading to wrinkles, fine lines, and a loss of facial volume. Sculptra addresses these signs of ageing not just by filling in lines, but by rejuvenating the skin from within.

The treatment involves the careful injection of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible and biodegradable substance, into the deep dermis. Over time, Sculptra helps to gradually and naturally rebuild the skin’s collagen framework, restoring volume and smoothing out wrinkles. The results are not only immediate but also long-lasting, with improvements that can last for up to two years.

At Hardwick Clinic, our expert team ensures that each Sculptra treatment is tailored to meet your individual needs and aesthetic goals, providing a natural, refreshed look. Whether you’re seeking to enhance your facial contours, reduce the appearance of deep lines, or restore youthful fullness, Sculptra at Hardwick Clinic in Cambridge offers a safe and effective solution.

Juvelook & Lenisna

Juvelook and Lenisna are newer injectable biostimulators that combine poly-D-L-lactic acid (PDLLA) with hyaluronic acid to deliver both an immediate hydrating effect and longer-term collagen stimulation. Innovative product development is designed to achieve more controlled collagen stimulation and a reduced risk of complications, such as nodules or granulomas, compared with older biostimulators.

Juvelook is particularly well-suited to finer lines, skin texture and delicate areas, including the under-eyes and forehead, while Lenisna offers greater structural support for areas of early sagging or mild volume change, such as the mid-face and jawline. Unlike Sculptra, both Juvelook and Lenisna can be dissolved if necessary, which gives additional flexibility in how treatment is planned and adjusted over time.

Most patients benefit from a course of two to three sessions, with results that can last up to two years and require only occasional maintenance thereafter. For patients seeking a natural-looking improvement in skin quality, texture, and early contour changes without adding traditional filler, Juvelook and Lenisna offer a highly versatile option.

Injectable collagen biostimulators FAQs

What is a collagen biostimulator, and how does it differ from a dermal filler?

A dermal filler replaces lost volume by injecting hyaluronic acid gel directly into the skin. A biostimulator works differently: it triggers the body’s own collagen-producing cells to generate new collagen over time. The results are more gradual but tend to look very natural, improve the skin’s quality and structure rather than simply adding bulk, and can last considerably longer than most traditional fillers.

What is Sculptra, and how does it work?

Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible, biodegradable material with a long history of safe use in medical settings. When injected into the deep dermis or subcutaneous tissue, it creates a controlled response that stimulates collagen and elastin production. Volume is restored gradually as new collagen develops, with results that typically last up to two years. Sculptra is particularly effective for broader facial volume restoration and deeper structural changes.

What are Juvelook and Lenisna, and how do they differ from Sculptra?

Juvelook and Lenisna contain poly-D-L-lactic acid (PDLLA) combined with hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid provides an immediate hydrating effect following treatment, while the PDLLA stimulates collagen progressively. Unlike Sculptra, Juvelook and Lenisna do not require post-treatment massage, and their molecular structure is designed to reduce the likelihood of complications. Juvelook is better suited to surface-level concerns such as fine lines, texture, and delicate areas like the under-eyes, while Lenisna provides more structural support for early sagging or volume changes.

Which treatment areas can be addressed?

Sculptra is most commonly used for broader volumisation of the mid-face, cheeks, temples and jawline, as well as the body. Juvelook and Lenisna are highly versatile and can address under-eye hollowing, fine lines, early wrinkles, loss of elasticity, crepey or uneven skin texture, and early contour changes around the cheeks or jawline – on the face, neck and hands.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

This depends on the treatment and the degree of change being addressed. Sculptra typically requires two to three sessions for full facial rejuvenation. Juvelook and Lenisna most commonly require two to three sessions spaced six to eight weeks apart, with maintenance usually needed only once every twelve to twenty-four months, depending on age, lifestyle and individual skin condition.

When will I see results?

With all three treatments, results develop gradually as new collagen is produced. An initial fresher, more hydrated appearance may be noticeable within a few weeks, with the main collagen-stimulating results typically visible two to three months after treatment. This gradual progression is part of what makes biostimulators look so natural.

Are there any side effects or downtime?

A topical anaesthetic is applied before treatment to minimise discomfort. Mild swelling, redness or bruising at the injection sites is common and generally resolves within a few days. Most patients return to normal activities on the same day. A thorough consultation will be carried out beforehand to assess suitability and discuss any individual considerations.

Can Juvelook and Lenisna be reversed?

Unlike Sculptra, Juvelook and Lenisna can be dissolved if necessary, which is an important distinction for patients wanting reassurance about flexibility and reversibility. Sculptra results, while gradual and natural-looking, are not reversible in the same way.

How do I know which biostimulator is right for me?

The most appropriate treatment, or combination of treatments, will depend on your skin quality, areas of concern and what you hope to achieve. At Hardwick Clinic, Dr Lapa-Enright will assess your skin thoroughly at the consultation and recommend the approach most likely to deliver the results you are looking for. In some cases, more than one biostimulator may be used at different stages, or combined with complementary treatments such as Profhilo, Morpheus8 or HIFU.
