Men’s Health Week runs from 15 to 21 June, and this year we want to talk openly about something that is often part of men’s health conversations at Hardwick Clinic, but rarely discussed publicly: aesthetics.
“Male patients make up close to a third of our clinic,” confirms Dr Tatyana Lapa-Enright. “They come with the same concerns and the same desire for results – but often a different set of priorities. Subtle. Natural. Low maintenance. Nothing that looks ‘done’. And in most cases, they would prefer the whole thing to stay between them and their clinician.
Men’s Health Week feels like a good moment to be straightforward about what men are actually choosing, and why.
Anti-wrinkle injections, or botulinum toxin, remain one of the most popular treatments for men at Hardwick Clinic. The target areas are predictable: frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet. The goal is never to erase expression, but to soften lines that have become permanent – the kind that make a rested face look tense, tired, or older than it feels.
In men, dosing and placement require a different approach than in women. Male facial muscles tend to be stronger, and the aesthetic ideal preserves a degree of movement and masculine character. We take the time to assess facial structure and movement before any product is placed.
If there is one structural concern that comes up consistently in male consultations, it is the jawline. Definition here – sharpness where the jaw meets the neck, the absence of jowling – is closely associated with a youthful, vigorous appearance. It is also one of the first areas to change with age.
Two treatments stand out as particularly well-suited to this concern in men.
Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy delivered beneath the skin’s surface. In the lower face and neck, this stimulates collagen remodelling and tightens lax tissue – improving jawline definition and reducing the early signs of jowling without surgery. It works particularly well for men because it improves texture and skin quality alongside structural tightening, and it leaves no visible signs of treatment.
HIFU delivers focused ultrasound energy to the deeper structural layers of the face – the same layers addressed in a surgical facelift – stimulating a lift-and-firming response over the months following treatment. For men who want meaningful improvement in jawline clarity and neck firmness without downtime, HIFU is a compelling option. A single session can produce results that develop gradually and last well.
Both treatments suit men who want real structural improvement and are prepared to allow time for the result to develop, which, in our experience, is most of the men we see.
Skin that is cleansed properly performs better – both as a baseline and in response to any treatment. A gentle, pH-balanced cleanser suited to your skin type removes daily pollution, sebum and shaving residue without stripping the skin barrier. This one step makes a measurable difference to skin clarity and texture over time.
“If I could recommend only one product to every male patient I see, it would be SPF,” explains Tatyana. “Ultraviolet exposure is the single largest driver of visible skin ageing and is responsible for pigmentation, textural changes, loss of collagen, as well as skin cancer risk.
“Daily SPF 30 or higher, applied every morning regardless of weather, is evidence-based preventative skin care. Formulations have improved enormously; there are now excellent options that are lightweight, mattifying, and quick absorbing, with none of the white cast that put men off using them in the past.”
Nighttime is when the skin repairs and renews, making it the ideal window for ingredients that work on skin quality. A well-chosen night cream containing actives such as retinol, niacinamide, or peptides can gradually and sustainably address fine lines, uneven skin tone, and skin texture.
Many of the men we see choose not to tell anyone they have had a treatment – and that is entirely their prerogative. Our job is to deliver results that are good enough that no one would guess, and to provide a consultation environment that feels clinical, direct and without pressure.
Men’s Health Week is not only about physical health in the conventional sense. Confidence, appearance and how you feel in your own skin are part of the picture too. If any of the above resonates, a free consultation at Hardwick Clinic is a good place to start.
