Men’s Aesthetics
A sharper jawline, better skin and a straight answer on hair loss

Movember is Men’s Health Awareness Month

November is Men’s Health Month, and while most of the conversation rightly focuses on physical and mental health, how men feel about their appearance is part of that picture too. Looking tired, older or less defined than you feel can quietly chip away at confidence, at work and at home.

At Hardwick Clinic, male patients make up a growing share of the people we see, and their priorities are usually clear. Results should look natural. Downtime should be minimal. And nobody should be able to tell exactly what has changed, only that you look well.

Here is a straightforward guide to the treatments men ask us about most, starting with the one that comes up again and again: the jawline.

Jawline tightening in Cambridge

Why the jawline changes

A defined jawline is one of the features men most associate with looking healthy and in shape. Over time, it softens. Collagen and elastin production slows from our late twenties; skin gradually loses firmness, and the tissue along the lower face begins to drop. The result is jowls, a less distinct line between jaw and neck, and sometimes a heavier look under the chin.

Weight changes, sun exposure, smoking and genetics all play a part. So does rapid weight loss, which can leave skin looser than before. The good news is that non-surgical treatment can make a real difference.

HIFU and Morpheus8: our two go-to jawline treatments:

HIFU

HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) delivers focused energy to the deeper layers of the skin, including the supportive layer that surgeons work on during a facelift, without breaking the skin’s surface.

This prompts the body to produce new collagen over the following weeks and months, which can help improve the appearance of jowls and lift and tighten the jawline and neck.

There is no downtime, so most men return to work the same day. Results develop gradually over two to three months, which suits anyone who would rather have a subtle change than an overnight one.

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy. Fine needles create tiny channels in the skin while heat is delivered beneath the surface, encouraging collagen remodelling and tightening. It can help improve the appearance of skin laxity along the jaw and neck, as well as texture, enlarged pores and acne scarring, which many men also want to address.

Morpheus8 is usually recommended as a short course, with some redness and mild swelling for a few days afterwards. For many patients, HIFU and Morpheus8 work well together, with one working deeper and the other refining the skin’s surface. We will talk you through which suits your skin and goals at consultation.

The eye area: the first place that men notice tiredness

For many men, the eye area is the biggest concern. The skin here is thinner than anywhere else on the face, so it’s often the first place to show fatigue, stress and the passing of time. Dark circles, hollowness, fine lines and crepey skin can make you look tired or older than you feel, even after a good night’s sleep.

Under-eye skin boosters and polynucleotides are designed to help improve hydration, skin quality and the appearance of dark circles, without adding volume or changing the shape of your eyes. For more established lines and loose skin, CO2 laser can help improve the appearance of crow’s feet, lines under and around the eyes and loose skin above them by resurfacing the skin and stimulating new collagen. There is some redness and swelling for a few days afterwards, and autumn and winter are a good time for it, when UV levels are lower.

Skin quality: the treatments that make you look rested

Men’s skin tends to be thicker and oilier than women’s, but it still shows the effects of sun, stress, shaving and late nights. These treatments focus on overall skin health rather than changing your features.

HydraTite is a non-invasive skin-tightening treatment delivered as a course of sessions, each building on the last. It is a good option for men who want to firm the skin with no downtime, and pairs well with jawline treatments.

Skin boosters use injectable hyaluronic acid to help improve hydration, elasticity and skin quality from within, without adding volume or changing your face shape. The result is skin that simply looks healthier.

Microneedling stimulates the skin’s natural repair process to help improve the appearance of texture, pores, fine lines and scarring. It is especially popular with men who have lingering acne scars.

IPL with Lumecca targets the redness, broken capillaries and sun spots that build up after years of skipping SPF. It can help even out skin tone and is a good fit for the autumn and winter months, when UV levels are lower.

All these treatments work best on healthy skin, and a good skincare routine is a must. That doesn’t mean it has to be complicated. At consultation, we can recommend products that suit your skin type and concerns, whether that’s oiliness, sensitivity from shaving or early signs of ageing, so you’re not left guessing at the bathroom shelf.

SPF, in particular, is the single most effective step you can take to protect your skin and your results.

Hair loss: assessment first

Hair thinning and a receding hairline are among the most common concerns men bring to us, and among the most personal. The important first step is understanding why it is happening. Male pattern hair loss is the most common cause, but stress, nutrition, thyroid function and some medications can all contribute.

That is why every hair loss journey at Hardwick Clinic starts with a dedicated hair loss consultation, so we can build a plan around what is actually going on. Depending on the cause, that may include medical treatments, regenerative options such as PRP, and scalp-focused treatments. The earlier we assess thinning, the more options you usually have.

Discreet, doctor-led and never pressured

Hardwick Clinic is led by Dr Tatyana Lapa-Enright, a GMC-registered aesthetic doctor, and we take the same approach with every patient. We start with a consultation, listen to what is bothering you, and give you an honest view of what is realistic. Sometimes that is a course of treatment. Sometimes it is a better skincare routine. Occasionally it is no treatment at all.

Results vary from person to person, and we will always explain what you can expect before you book.

If Men’s Health Month is the nudge you needed, book a consultation with our team, and we will help you work out where to start.
