Preparing for Plastic Surgery:

Optimising Skin, Health, Healing and Recovery

Undergoing plastic surgery is a significant physiological event for the body. Thoughtful preparation in the weeks and months beforehand can support skin quality, wound healing, recovery time, and long-term surgical outcomes.

At Hardwick Clinic, we take a medical-led, holistic approach, focusing on optimising skin health and general wellbeing before surgery, while working in alignment with your operating surgeon.

Why preparation matters

Surgical procedures place controlled stress on the skin and underlying tissues. Skin integrity, collagen reserves, inflammatory balance, circulation, and overall metabolic health influence healing, scar formation, swelling, recovery time, and durability of results.

Preparation is about supporting the biology of healing, not performing unnecessary or aggressive treatments.

A holistic approach: skin, body and wellbeing

Healthy, resilient skin is better able to tolerate surgery and recover efficiently. Our approach focuses on strengthening the skin barrier, improving hydration and elasticity, supporting collagen and extracellular matrix function, and reducing background inflammation.

This is supported by individualised medical-grade skincare and broader lifestyle considerations, including nutrition, micronutrient support, sleep quality, and stress regulation.

Coordination with your surgeon

All pre-surgical skin treatments must be coordinated with the operating surgeon. The surgeon has final authority on timing, suitability, and when treatments should stop. We are happy to work collaboratively to ensure preparation is safe and aligned.

Supporting healing and recovery

Our preparation strategy aims to reduce unnecessary inflammation, support tissue repair, optimise circulation and oxygen delivery, and promote efficient recovery. Post-operative skin support may be advised once cleared by the surgeon.

A personalised preparation plan

Every surgical journey is unique. We offer individualised consultations to assess skin and health, understand the planned procedure and timeline, and create a bespoke, evidence-informed preparation plan. Book a free consultation today.

Hydrafacial – skin conditioning protocol

Hydrafacial may be used as a non-invasive skin conditioning treatment during the early preparation phase. Protocols focus on gentle cleansing, light exfoliation, hydration, barrier support, and the avoidance of aggressive actives. Hydrafacial is not performed close to the surgical date and is adapted to the planned procedure.

Polynucleotides

Polynucleotide treatments support cellular repair, dermal regeneration, and skin resilience. They are used to enhance the skin’s regenerative capacity rather than to alter facial structure. Careful timing in relation to surgery is essential.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) skin boosters

HA skin boosters improve hydration, elasticity, and extracellular matrix support. These are non-volumising treatments selected to enhance skin quality rather than contour. Product choice and timing are individualised.

Mesotherapy solutions

Mesotherapy formulations containing amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and supportive compounds may be used to support collagen synthesis, cellular metabolism, microcirculation, and the skin’s healing environment. The focus is on biological support rather than cosmetic change.

Microneedling

Microneedling may be used well in advance of surgery to stimulate collagen production, improve circulation, and support long-term skin resilience. It is not performed close to the surgical date.

LED light therapy

LED light therapy is supported by evidence for improving skin health, modulating inflammation, and supporting cellular energy and repair processes. It may be used pre-surgically to condition the skin and, once cleared by the surgeon, post-operatively to support recovery.
