Pigmentation

Pigmentation concerns are common and may present as uneven skin tone, dark patches, or isolated pigmented spots.

They can develop gradually over time or be triggered by sun exposure, hormonal changes, inflammation, or ageing.

At Hardwick Clinic, we take a medical, evidence-based approach to pigmentation, focusing on accurate assessment, skin safety, and long-term management.

Common types of pigmentation

Pigmentation can present in several forms, including:

  • Melasma – hormonally influenced pigmentation, often affecting the face
  • Age spots (solar lentigines) – flat brown spots commonly related to cumulative sun exposure
  • Sun damage – diffuse pigmentation and uneven skin tone caused by UV exposure
  • Freckles – genetically influenced pigmentation that may darken with sun exposure
  • Post-inflammatory pigmentation – dark marks left behind after acne, irritation, or skin injury

Assessment and Management
at Hardwick Clinic

We offer a free initial consultation and personalised skincare review to assess pigmentation type, depth, triggers, and contributing factors. Many pigmentation concerns are long-standing and benefit from a structured management plan with regular review.

Management may include medical-grade skincare, pigment-regulating treatments, light- or energy-based procedures where appropriate, and ongoing sun protection strategies to reduce recurrence and support long-term skin health.

Where appropriate, we work closely with local healthcare practitioners and regularly refer to trusted colleagues, including dermatologists and plastic surgeons, to ensure safe and appropriate management. Mole removal and removal of pigmented lesions are not offered at Hardwick Clinic.

Skincare

We offer a comprehensive range of bespoke skincare regimes. These do not have to be complicated, but you have to be committed to one.
