Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

Vampire Facial
Sometimes known as a Dracula or Vampire facial, PRP Therapy is a procedure that harvests growth and healing factors from your own blood to promote skin rejuvenation. This therapy is especially beneficial for the face, neck and décollete and can be used in conjunction with other skin rejuvenation therapies. At Hardwick clinic, we can create a bespoke combined treatment plan for you.

A vampire facial involves taking blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate, blood cells, platelets and plasma. The fraction containing platelets also contains growth factors and other essential factors for healing. Numerous important proteins are present in PRP: platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor (TGF), platelet factor interleukin (IL), platelet-derived angiogenesis factor (PDAF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), epidermal growth factor (EGF), insulin-like growth factor IGF and fibronectin. Our methods harvest a very pure and concentrated PRP fraction containing these important growth and healing factors which can then be injected under the skin where they can promote skin rejuvenation.

PRP Therapy at Hardwick Clinic

We extract PRP from a small quantity of your own blood, usually taken from the arm. During the treatment we draw blood and spin it in a centrifuge to separate it into: blood cells, platelets and plasma. The blood cells are excluded and the remaining plasma and platelets are spun again in the centrifuge to produce a very concentrated mix of platelet-rich plasma containing growth and healing factors. The PRP we harvest from your own blood is then injected into the areas required. The top layers of the skin tissues are injected with this PRP to receive the nutrients needed to stimulate repair.

PRP Therapy can be combined with mesotherapy and dermaroller in a single session. At Hardwick clinic we provide a complimentary chemical peel, before PRP treatment to give you best possible results.

We can treat almost any area of the body including: Face, Neck, Décolleté, areas of cellulis and the scalp (for hair loss treatment).

Post-treatment, redness of the skin usually lasts for 2 hours but can last up to 48 hours. Swelling of the skin is usually not long-lasting but can last for up to 48 hours. Bruising is usually only small superficial bruises.

Is it for me?

Because PRP doesn’t involve injection of a medication there are few patients who are not suitable for treatment. PRP therapy should not be used by people with the following conditions:

  • Critical thrombocytopaenia (a low number of platelets in the blood)
  • Septicaemia
  • Haemodynamic instability (an unstable blood pressure)
  • Infection at the site of injection
  • Pregnancy and breast-feeding mothers
