Excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) is a common but debilitating condition. It can affect the entire body or sometimes be restricted to a certain area (e.g. underarm, axillary hyperhidrosis). It may improve with age but for many patients it represents an uncomfortable and embarrasing problem. Thankfully there are a number of treatment options available for this condition. At Hardwick clinic we are CQC registered and able to perform effective treatments for excessive sweating.
It is perfectly normal to sweat during excersise. This is the bodies way of using evaporation to cool you down. If however, you are sweating excessively and particularly when not excercising it may be a sign of hyperhidrosis. This can happen for no apparent reason or in response to certain medications you might be taking.
It's normal to sweat if you get hot or do exercise, but you may be sweating excessively if you're sweating when your body doesn't need to cool down. Excessive sweating can happen for no obvious reason, because of another condition you may have or as a side effect of medication you're taking.
At hardwick clinic we offer two treatments for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), Botox® and High Frequency Ultrasound. Both have been proven to be effective for multiple types of hyperhidrosis including axillary (underarm) and other areas.
Botox is a well-established treatment for muscle relaxation but it can also be used to temporarily disable sweat production from sweat glands. During this procedure, the practitioner injects Botox direcly around the sweat glands which significantly reduces sweating. This procedure is relatively quick and results are expected to last for 3-6 months.
High Frequency Ultrasound (HiFu) is a relatively new procedure with FDA clearance and British Association of Dermatologists for hyperhidrosis, particularly underarm (Miradry). This procedure uses focused ultrasound pulses applied directly over the sweat gland to suppress its activity. Two treatments are usually required to achieve a reduction of at least 80% for sweat production. The effects from Hifu treatment are long-lasting and should persist for years. The procedure is relatively quick taking approximately 45 minutes. The second treatment should be booked 6-12 weeks after the first for optimal results. You can read more about HiFu treatments here
